Gold for Petrounias in Gymnastics World Championship
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Lefteris Petrounias won the gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships on Saturday and has secured himself a spot in the Rio Olympics.
The Greek champion won the rings event at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow by collecting 15,800 points to beat his Chinese opponents into second and third.
This completes a dream year for the 25-year-old gymnast who has added the Worlds gold to that in the European Championships and the European Games, having won five out of the six major international competitions he has entered within 2015.
His victory also means that he has now freed up one more Olympic spot for Greek gymnasts to grab at the Olympic qualification event to take place at Rio in April.
