Will countries in EU south be cast out of the Schengen Zone?

An article in the Daily Mail has caused shock, since according to what it says Europe is making plans to exclude Greece, Spain and Italy, along with easern Europe from the Schengen area.

This extreme scenario, according to the British newspaper, will come into effect to rescue the EU area in which one can travel without a passport, after the peak of the migration crisis.

Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands intend to redesign the boundaries of the Zone, so that it includes only original members, creating a "Mini Schengen".

Also they could impose stricter passport controls, to systematically cross-checke the names of those who cross the border to those found in lists of intelligence agancies.

These five countries removed checkpoints between them 20 years ago, but now this Zone includes 26 countries. After the escalating refugee crisis the Schengen Zone was accused of allowing crowds of asylum seekers to enter Europe without control, notes the paper, which notes that it is considered that one of the perpetrators of the carnage of Paris arrived in France entering Europe from Leros.

The redesign of the Schengen Zone will ne discussed, according to Daily Mail, at the extraordinary meeting of EU justice and interior ministers on Friday in Brussels, convened after the terrorist attack in Paris.
