Greek airports: 20.1 million passengers in first half of 2016

The total number of flights at Greek airports during the January-June period reached 189,008 (of which 89,343 were domestic flights and 99,665 were international), up 4.2 percent (4.7 percent rise in domestic flights and 3.8 percent rise in international flights), compared to the corresponding period of 2015 which had recorded 181,352 flights.

Accordingly, the total number of passengers handled in the first half of the year reached some 20.1 million (20,083,702), up eight percent year-on-year, as during the same period last year 18,603,058 passengers were recorded to have passed through Greece’s airports.

In June alone, 6.5 million passengers passed through Greek airports, a total increase of 3.3 percent (3.2 percent rise in domestic passengers and 3.3 percent increase in foreign passengers).

The airports of Athens, Heraklion, Rhodes, Thessaloniki and Corfu received the most passengers in June, according to the Civil Aviation Authority. Last month, Athens’ airport welcomed 1.9 million passengers, Heraklion’s passenger traffic amounted to 969,308 and 733.530 passengers passed through Rhodes’ airport. Thessaloniki’s passenger traffic amounted to 576,097 passengers and Corfu welcomed 445,125 passengers.
