Northern Evia: fire still burning
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The fire in northern Evia island is under control. The small town of Limni is out of danger. Efforts now focus on the front near the St. Nicholas Monastery in the area of Galataki. 2 aircraft and 4 helicopters try to put out the blazes. In total more than 40 thousand stremmas of forest land have been burnt since Saturday.
Citizens’ Protection Minister Nikos Toskas was in Limni on Monday to assess the situation and he chaired a meeting of local and regional officials. Local officials indicated that the area will remain in a state of emergency until the blaze is doused.
