ND: Ready to agree on TV regulator as soon as TV law is revoked

New Democracy is ready to agree with the government on the establishment of the new Greek National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV) board, the country’s independent media regulator, if the government repeals the TV licensing law submitted by State Minister Nikos Pappas, party spokesman Giorgos Koumoutsakos reportedly said in an interview with “Eleftheros Typos” on Sunday.

“We have said in the clearest way that we are ready to agree in the setting up of the NCRTV, as we’ve already done with other independent authorities. With one self-evident condition: That the government will abolish the law of [State Minister Nikos] Pappas, with which he arbitrarily removed from the Council its constitutionally entrenched powers,” Koumoutsakos was quoted as saying.
“So first they abolished NCRTV and now they reproach the opposition parties because they do not consent to its establishment. We will not become part of this ridicule of institutions,” he added.
