Firefighter succumbs to wounds

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras also expressed his condolences to the family via a post on Twitter, while Alternate Citizen Protection Minister Nikos Toskas issued an announcement expressing the "deep anguish" of the ministry's leadership and extending condolences to his family.
"The self-denial with which he served the social whole is a shining example, which we are obliged to underline even at this difficult time for his loved ones and the fire brigade, as a tribute to the memory of a man that performed his social mission with honour. We bow before his memory and stand by his family and colleagues," the announcement said.
Mouzakitis died on Monday morning at the 251 General Airforce Hospital, where he was admitted with serious injuries after he was crushed by an agricultural machine and trailer that tipped over while Mouzakitis and two other firemen were riding it in order to get close to the fire.
Condolences were also expressed by the SYRIZA party's press office, which additionally noted the need to reinforce the fire brigade with more personnel and equipment, so that fires can be tackled by fire men with greater safety.
In a brief but emotionally charged message, Fire Brigade Chief Lieut. General Vasilis Kapelios said that Mouzakitis "left us unexpectedly as a hero, faithful to duty and conscientious service".
"I want to pay tribute to a young man and a superb colleague... a young man that made an indelible mark through his contribution to society and his love for his fellow men," Kapelios said.
