Epic dive: Fully clothed woman retrieves Cross from waters
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The ceremony of blessing the waters, their sanctification, took an unexpected turn in Dilessi, Boeotia, as a fully dressed woman with a handbag dove in and retrieved the Cross.
It was the time during the ceremony when young people jump in the icy waters to retrieve the Cross and receive the blessing. The person retrieving the cross is considered blessed for the whole year, and in many parishes receives gifts from the faithful.
However, things did not go as expected in Dilessi. This because a woman wearing a jacket, booties and clutching a handbag ... surprised everyone.
As soon as the priest hurled the cross, she found herself close to it, and fell in the frozen waters and was the lucky one this year.
As shown in a video, uploaded on facebook, the youngsters, who had been preparings to dive, were a little disappointed, as they certainly did not expect this development.
"The game was a set up ...", commented an onlooker.
