US ambassador to Athens in Ankara during Tillerson visit
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The US Ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey R. Pyatt will travel to Ankara, Turkey from 15 – 16 February to meet with the Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell and other regional Ambassadors to discuss the US energy agenda, among other things.
Mr Pyatt will not be meeting with Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu as was reported in the press.
The Greek government is pinning hope that the US could possibly cajole Turkey into following legal and civil norms, although how this is likely is questionable, given Erdogan's threats against the superpowerr, and his waqrming relations with Putin.
