Ministerial couple resign after rent subsidy scandal

Greek PM Alexis Tsipras has accepted the resignation of Deputy Minister of Labor Rania Antonopoulou after the huge outcry following revelations that she had received rent subsidies worth 23,000 euros.
She admitted that she had received the rent subsidy claiming she had mistakenly thought it was part of her salary as a minister. She added that she intends to return the money. The announcement released by Maximos Mansion thanked the minister for her 3-year contribution.
The minister and her husband who was alsoaminister in the current government and tendered his resignation later, are owners of homes in Athens,NewYork, and have a villa on Syros. Theya re also shown as having sizable cash accounts.
A few hours after the resignation of his wife, Rania Antonopoulou, Economy Minister Dimitris Papadimitriou submitted his resignation.
According to information of EFSYN newspaper. both resignations were submitted for the sake of dignity after the issue of the rent allowance received by the former deputy minister for Social Solidarity.
The conversation between Tsipras and Papadimitriou took place in a good climate, with the Prime Minister thanking Mr. Papadimitriou for his efforts in the field of investment.
