FYROM: Demonstration against name change ends up with Greek flag burning
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A rally demonstrating against the change of the name of FYROM was staged by around 5,000 people in Skopje, ending up with burning the Greek flag.
Demonstrators were also calling for an immediate stop to the UN-sponsored name resolution negotiations in New York.
The gathering, organized by extreme nationalist organizations and organizations of the FYROM diaspora, started from the EU offices in Skopje and ended in front of the country's parliament.
Several of the protesters had flags with the Sun of Vergina, while some of them also set fire to a Greek flag. Among the participants were also the metropolitans of the Macedonian schismatic orthodox church, who addressed the crowd.
