Violence among immigrants on Lesvos ahead of Tsipras' arrival

Serious incidents broke out once more, on Sunday night, at the Moria refugee center, on Lesvos.

The new incidents were instigated by immigrants, who, under conditions so far unknown, began their fracas that did not take long to spiral out of control.

Based on the report, the police tried to impose order, but the incidents expanded beyond the Moria camp.

Information that has not been confirmed so far, speaks of wounded persons  transported by ambulancesto the Hospital of Mytilene.

Earlier, strangers had vandalized the area by throwing stones, breaking trash bins and breaking road signs.

It is noted that all this happened just days before the visit of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to the island for the North Aegean regional development conference.

According to press reports the police are planning to ship 17 riot police platoons to Lesvos, ahead of the visit. Meanwhile, citizens, local authorities, and business associations have called for demonstrations against the presence of Tsipras, as well as against the government's policies on immigrants and taxation.
