Greek Tourism Ministry approves revised rating scheme for Rooms to Let

A revised rating scheme for rooms to let released by the Greek tourism ministry laying out the terms, conditions and requirements for classification, was welcomed this week by the Greek Confederation of Tourist Accommodation Enterprises (SETKE).

The renewed classification system, approved by Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura, foresees the quality ranking on a scale of 1 to 5 keys for rooms to let respectively depending on a series of requirements including amenities and technical specifications.

According to the published decision, the mandatory classification procedure will be carried out by specialized authorities from the National Accreditation Council and must be completed by December 31, 2018.

The ministry said there will be no further extensions to the deadline date.

The previous system classified rooms to let into one of four key categories according to set standards and collected points, with four keys being the highest.

“The 5-key category meets specific quality standards and requirements and will represent luxury tourist accommodation offering specialized and personalized services to its visitors,” said SETKE in a statement, adding that the revised scheme “better reflects the industry”.
