Tsipras meeting with Erdogan postponed till further notice

The visit of Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Alexis Tsipras to Constantinople is being postponed until further notice, with Tayyip Erdogan's verbal threats being in full swing.

The Turkish president is sharply raising tones against Greece and Cyprus, on the basis of the exploration drilling in the Cypriot EEZ.

At the Prime Minister's Office they maintain an open communication channel with the Turkey. However, there is a strong concern about the recent demands and the significant provocations against the two countries from Turkey.

For this reason, any legitimate hopes for the possibility of returning Greek-Turkish relations to a phase of normality and starting a civilized bilateral dialogue seem to be eroding.

The Turkish president had renewed, from Paris, his invitation to the Greek Prime Minister, with Athens at this stage, at least, appearing suspicious of the timing of the visit.

"No visit before January"

In this climate, diplomatic sources speaking to the Press about the preparation of the trip, said that the formation of the bilateral agenda was in progress.

In the question, however, on the date they answered in a laconic way: "Not before January". Leaving implicitly but clearly the suggestion that for such a high level meeting, good preparation and convergence points are required.

The tripartite Cyprus-Israel summit will be held on 20 December.

With Turkey being already pressured, both geographically and politically, and not wanting to talk with Greece, either through the mediation of third parties, or in terms of international law, but rather than in terms of power.

Finally, in the aftermath of statements by the Turkish President that Greece's reckless behavior has evolved into a source of threat and risk first for itself, competent sources spoke of Turkey's reaction while it is not ready to sit at the table of talks. Diplomatic circles maintain that the Greek side is determined to protect its sovereign rights.
