Greek - French Cultural Alliance

The French Institute, the French embassy, the Stavros Niarchos Institute and the French Culture Ministry are cooperating in a massive cultural project in Athens taking place between January and June 2014. The festival is titled “Greece – France – Alliance 2014" and carries numerous music and art performances.

Among the acts appearing in the festival are the Greek band Paxos Ensemble performing modern french music, the Tana quartet performing works of established composers Franck Bedrossian and Raphael Cendo. The latter will be in the epicenter of another famous performance given by the Athens State Orchestra. These performances will take place in the Theocharaki Institute.

Jazz will be the music style performed in the Onassis Institute by french acts. Among them the Louis Sclavis jazz trio, the Tetraktys modern jazz quartet and the Luna Park musical theatre headed by George Apergis. The TM+ ensemble will be performing “Citoyenne Insolente” by Alexandros Markeas will be presented on January 24 in the French Institute and on January 25 in the Thessaloniki Music Megaron.

Other concerts will include performances by Greek pianist Dimitris Vasilakis, Nena Venetsanou and the french program of the Thessaloniki State Orchestra conducted by Alexandros Myrat. In the “Grek World” Cultural Center in June the Plissken Festival will be presenting french electronic music artists, while classic dancer Myriam Gourfink will be performing in the Onassis Institute.

Performances are not isolated to the big cities of Greece. Modern french jazz trio Groove Catchers are invited in the Cyclades Festival and will be touring the islands of Naxos, Paros and Tinos.

Parallel actions include forums on theater, literature, philosophy, dance, the arts, education and -last but not least- film, with a tribute to Greek film icon Melina Mercouri.
