Eirini Melissaropoulou returned to Athens after 16 months in prison in Hong Kong after her arrest on charges of cocaine trafficking.
Accompanied by lawyer Sakis Kehagioglou on arrival at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, the 21-year-old noted that she was particularly moved to find herself again in the homeland and stressed that she insisted from the first moment that she was innocent.
"I am particularly pleased that the court has recognized my innocence," she noted before thanking Mr. Kehagiogloufor "the battle he gave," as she pointed out, as well as the consular authorities.
"My only wish now is to go back to Mytilene with my family, give an end, start my life from the beginning and plan the future," Eirini Melissaropoulou added, concluding that she would need respect for her personal life.
"Her adventure is ending today with her return home. It took a lot of trouble, thousands of hours of cooperation, a lot of struggle, great patience on her part and her family. My mission is completed today and I am very happy to welcome her to Greece. She was also dreaming about this moment as was I, and it is a blessing to say that today we are in Athens," Mr. Kehagioglou added.
