Rewarding recycling at New Democracy's HQ a first in Greece

New Democracy (ND) became the first political entity in Greece to implement a program of rewarding recycling, the party announced on Tuesday, implementing the action at the party's headquarters in June.

'Rewarding Packaging Recycling' is an agency set up in June 2019 by the Greek state as per law 4496 of 2017 for the promotion and development of packaging recycling in Greece. It is the only official body that has created comprehensive recycling programs to fulfill the legal obligation to separate recyclable packaging.

The Rewarding Packaging Recycling's program offers 0.30 euro for every single plastic, metal or glass item collected to the Social Cooperative Company "New Horizons", which helps with the social reintegration of former prison inmates.

New Horizons also collects the recyclable waste from the ND offices. "New Democracy effectively demonstrates its commitment to environmental protection. Our party will continue this effort at all levels. In government policies, in global forums, but above all in daily activities," emphasized a party statement.

The ND government introduced the National Collective System of Alternative Management of Packaging through Rewarding Packaging Recycling on August 6, implementing the system at Maximos Mansion shortly thereafter, also for the first time.
