Hatzidakis to present measures for PPC, DEPA
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Environment and Energy Minister Kostis Hatzidakis will present on Thursday the measures for the modernization of the Public Power Corporation (PPC), the privatisation of the Gas Corporation (DEPA) and the support of the Renewable Energy Sources following a discussion in the cabinet meeting.
The PPC measures include the exemption of the company from bureaucratic procedures of the state that impede their activity in competition, in terms of procurement and recruitment. As the competent sources specify, the exemption will not apply to monopoly activities (eg supplies to distribution networks) where the business is regulated, but only to areas where State control puts the company at a disadvantage over its competitors.
As for DEPA, the previous government's legislation will be annulled and the company will be divided into three activities: natural gas distribution networks, commercial activities and international projects of pipelines which are expected to remain under the control of the State.
