Imia fallen honored

The sacrifice of the three heroic servicemen killed during the Imia crisis of January 1996 was honored during the memorial service held at the Naval Helicopter unit at Naval Fort Kotroni, at Marathon.
The service was attended by defense minister Dimitris Avramopoulos who spoke of their sacrifice: “We stand with reverance, honor, and gratitude towards the memory of the men of the Hellenic Navy that through their sacrifice send a constant message of selflessness and dedication to the nation.”
“The armed forces proudly hold in their memories and hearts our heroes and participate by paying their own tribute of honor, reminding all thst their sacrifice is an example and a guide for all personnel faced with the ultimate during towards the motherland,” said Mr Avramopoulos.
After the ceremony, the minister laid a wreath at the Naval Aviation Memorial to the Fallen. Wreaths were also laid by the Chiefe of the Joint Staff, as well as the chief of the navy.
