FM Dendias: We will not allow Turkey's blackmails

Featured FM Dendias: We will not allow Turkey's blackmails

Greece will not allow Turkey to view immigration as a bilateral issue, nor to blackmail the country using migratory flows, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias stressed.

In an interview with SKAI radio station, Nikos Dendias noted "It is not always easy to talk to the Turkish side, even in things where what is law, right, and moral are obvious", Mr. Dendias noted.

"Greece is making an effort in the first place to explain to Turkey that there are certain obligations and the government is making an internal effort to organize a system of control of the migration flows that shield the country and its borders."

Dendias: The Mitsotakis Government will shield the country
As the Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out, the numbers are now exceeding the existing capabilities of the system and so this system must evolve very rapidly. "It is the Greek government's obligation - and the Mitsotakis government will do so - to shield the country.

We will not leave the country at the mercy of Turkish desires if Turkey is not prepared to realize its obligations," Mr. Dendias underlined, adding:" In Greece, Turkey can find a serious and sincere interlocutor who understands  the Turkish problems as well. Turkey is home to 4 million refugees. Greece is the one that, despite Turkey's behavior on various issues, has not linked them and has supported Turkey's request for financial support from the European Union. Turkey must understand and appreciate this. "

"We will fulfill our constitutional duty to safeguard the country's borders," Mr. Dendias pointed out, concluding that supplying the 10 extra speed boats is a good step towards guarding the sea's borders. He also stressed that there should already be in place a sophisticated camera and surveillance system that would allow us to see the movement of those who want to come to Greece long before they get on the boats.

"To exhaust our stamina to help as many people as we can, but we cannot beyond our capabilities," concluded Mr. Dendias
