The chapel of Our Lady of Liapyrgosaina of Chalkeion, on Chios, has come into the focus of unidentified perpetrators for the second time after it was set on fire on December 28, 2019.
Following the torching of the Holy Altar of the Holy Temple, by persons unknown on Tuesday night all the windows of the church were smashed causing significant damage.
According to Community President Vassilis Vigas, the destructive action of unidentified perpetrators was not limited to breaking the windows, since they took the image of the Crucifixion and broke it into fragments in the courtyard. The Church is very close to the Vial refugee center.
Yesterday, meaculpa.gr highlighted yet another case of church vandalism and image destruction in Thessaloniki. In the chapel of the Church of Our Lady, in Kamara, they repeatedly destroy, scratching, the icon of Our Lady, and defaceting in the temple.
In Thassos, on the day of the Epiphany, believers went to the chapels of Saint Marina and St. Basil in Limenas to worship and found that unknown perpetrators had entered the chapels and caused damage by gun-shot to icons.
The vandalism occurred at a time when there were no people near the chapels, as no one realized the slightest, and this is the first time a temple has been damaged and to such an extent, as Port residents say.
