The most likely date for Greek elections

Featured The most likely date for Greek elections

It seems that the government staff is under constant mobilization, with the scenarios for the possible dates when the elections will be held "flaring up" more and more.

According to what was reported in the central news bulletin of SKAI channel, the best date for the elections is Palm Sunday, April 9. However, it should be noted that a final decision has not been taken by the PM's office.

The same information from SKAI TV states that the second election is expected in May.

But while the specific date sounds… convenient, because expats could combine their travel for the election with the Easter holidays, the second election is expected in May.

This will happen, because some procedures need to be carried out after the end of the first electoral contest, such as investigative orders and the new opening and closing of the Parliament.

At the same time, the scenario for second elections in May is strengthened by the fact that the start of the Panhellenic Tertiary Education Entrance Examinations is set for the beginning of June.

In the last cabinet meeting for 2022, the prime minister limited himself to saying that the "elections will be held at the end of the four-year period" in an attempt to remove the possibility of winter polls from the discussion.

The renewal of New Democracy candidate lists

Estimates say that within January there will be mass announcements of candidacies, as ruling New Democracy party wants to give candidates time to run their blue flag "campaigns".

Gaps remain in the "blue" lists, as (they will) be looking for faces - symbols of renewal and the burden falls on 30- and 40-year-olds with the relevant list of names in the hands of PM Mitsotakis for evaluation.

There will be no sweeping changes, as almost all the current MPs will be after the vote, however the attempted "injections" from Local Government, the younger generation of the faction, the chambers are considered crucial.
