Impressive drop in crime

Police figures show crime has been dropping all through last year for the first time since the start of the recession. All statistics, from homicides to car heists are down.
Compared to 2012, last year homicides in the country were down by 11.9%, robberies by 17.9%, burglaries by 15.2% and carjackings by 7.6%. In Athens and the suburbs of Attica, statisics are even more encouraging: robberies down by 17.4%, burglaries by 17.1%.
In absolute numbers, in 2013, Greece had 141 homicides, with the police resolving an impressive 89.3% of all of them. There were 4919 robberies, with bank heists down by 26.7% and money transfers down by 83.3%. In property crimes there's an average drop of 13.6% compared to 2012.
Concerning illegal immigration, another burning issue for the Athens center inhabitants, Greek police arrested 43000 illegal residents in 2013, while immigration from Turkey has dropped significantly, with border patrols arresting 96.3% fewer migrants last year, compared to 2012.
