Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Friday morning in Brussels, on the sidelines of the European Council.
Although a tripartite was initially planned with the participation of the Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa, this is not what transpired due to Mr. Costa's last-minute obstruction.
The tripartite meeting of Greece, Italy and Portugal was planned following the initiative of the Greek Prime Minister, with the aim of forming a united front for the rules of economic governance ahead of today's "Euro Summit", which will be attended by the president of of the European Central Bank and the president of the Eurogroup, in Brussels.
On the other hand, Mrs. Meloni, who wants to play a more active role in the European process, is looking for interlocutors, having already had an open line with Kyriakos Mitsotakis for some time, with whom they also spoke by phone before the Summit.
