Kasselakis thanks defence ministry for 'candid' briefing on national security issues

The armaments programmes, armed forces' salaries and the modernisation of the infrastructure dominated a meeting on Monday between the national defence ministry's civilian and military leadership and main opposition SYRIZA-PA President Stefanos Kasselakis, who was accompanied on his visit by retired Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, a former defence minister and armed forces' chief.
Kasselakis had also a meeting in private with Defence Minister Nikos Dendias on national issues.
In statements after the meetings, Kasselakis twice thanked the leadership of the ministry for a "candid" discussion, noting that SYRIZA wants to be productive regarding national issues and the country's defence. "For us, these are not matters for communication but matters concerning the security of every Greek," he noted.
On the armaments programme, he said that "we are at the start of the long process before we reach an agreement on which there will be a briefing."
