Citizen Protection Min to order investigation on woman's killing while calling police

The police has to follow specific protocols to manage an incident like that of the killing of a 28-year-old woman by her former boyfriend, Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis said on Tuesday.
The woman was killed while she was on the phone with police on the 100 emergency line.
Speaking to national broadcaster ERT-News, Chrysochoidis said that over 17,000 police officers have been trained to deal with domestic violence.
"What is a priority is to investigate how this incident happened. When such an incident gets to the police, there are very explicit protocols a police officer follows to manage the incident, for which police officers are trained. Therefore, what needs to be investigated is to what degree these were applied," the minister said. He added that an internal investigation of the police's response will take place.
Asked to comment on the inclusion of the term 'femicide' in the Greek Penal Code, Chrysochoidis said, "I agree with the term 'femicide', but in terms of the penal treatment, it needs more discussion. It is necessary for criminal experts and the Justice Ministry to 'sit down' and see if we really need to make this change."
