Mitsotakis, Erdogan agree on maintaining calm climate in bilateral relations

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Washington.
According to government sources, they discussed issues of international and regional interest with an emphasis on recent developments in the Middle East and Ukraine. The two leaders, sources said, also held a brief review of bilateral relations following the latest meeting they had in Ankara in May.
Mitsotakis expressed his satisfaction for the collaboration with Turkish authorities on fighting illegal migration.
Both leaders agreed on the mutual benefit of maintaining a climate of calmness in bilateral relations. They also agreed to intensify collaboration toward the goal of doubling the value of bilateral trade exchanges.
They also talked about their next meeting, which will take place in New York in September, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
In addition, the Greek prime minister referred to the Cyprus issue, noting that 50 years following the tragedy of 1974 it is not possible for Cyprus, and EU member state, to remain divided, and he reiterated the need for the restart of talks to resolve the Cyprus issue.
