Two Italian nationals were arrested for lighting a fire at a beach lying next to a forest area in Antipaxi islands, western Greece, on Thursday.
According to the Fire Department, the two men, aged 50 and 53, were skippers on yachts. They lit the fire at the Pigi beach and were fined 2,250 euros each prior to being led before a prosecutor.
The prosecutor acquitted them because they had put the fire out themselves.
Greece forbids the lighting of fires outdoors from May 1 to October 31 annually, due to the threat of fire.
