Arrest in connection with Athens weapons cache

Police have arrested a 49-year-old Athens man in connection with the discovery of a weapons and explosives cache in a Pangrati apartment building's storage room.
The suspect, reportedly an educator at a private tutorial institute, was identified through CCTV footage showing him paying the monthly rent for the storage space via ATM.
The discovery of the hidden arsenal, which included firearms, hand grenades, detonators, and over 10 kilos of explosive material, along with 37 kilos of ammonium nitrate, has raised concerns.
Public Order Minister Michalis Chrisohoidis stated that while he doesn't believe the arsenal is linked to last month's deadly bomb blast in Ampelokipi, investigations into both cases are ongoing.
The storage room had been leased to unknown individuals for decades, with the owner, a retired military officer, only recently gaining access with the help of a locksmith.
The arrest marks a significant development in the investigation, as authorities work to uncover the motives behind the hidden arsenal and any potential connections to other incidents.
