- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
An infant was found at approximately 16:30 on Wednesday (14/5), abandoned under some trees and next to a garbage bin in Alimos, is a mystery, so far, for police,
The baby was found after ita abduction had already been reported, a few hours earlier, from a supermarket, in the Omonia area.
The experienced officers of the Sub-Directorate for the Protection of Minors are trying to put together the pieces of the puzzle so that they can identify the man who took the baby and arrive at his motives, with all possibilities open.
One assessment is that perhaps there is a case of buying and selling infants hidden behind the kidnapping, however, according to police sources, the scenario cannot be ruled out, that the unknown person intended to abuse the little girl and perhaps due to the mobilization that followed, he did not have time to complete his intentions.
According to the information, the infant was immediately examined by doctors at the "Aglaia Kyriakou Children's Hospital", where he was transported by ambulance, in order to determine whether he was in good health and whether he had been sexually abused, without identifying any relevant findings.
However, the prosecution was informed of the case, ordering it to be examined by a forensic doctor.
The chronicle of the abduction
The 43-year-old Roma grandmother, of the baby in her statement to the juvenile police allegedly stated that while she was outside the supermarket, a man passed by and told her to go inside the store to buy some things for him.
She also allegedly claimed that when she told him that she had the baby, he replied that he would watch it for her.
According to information from iefimerida, her allegations are allegedly confirmed by the video footage confiscated from the supermarket.
In it, they are recorded going inside together. The man was holding the baby and the grandmother was looking for what diapers to buy for him.
When she realized that the man had left with the baby, she allegedly started looking for them inside the store while heading to the cashiers shouting if they had seen a dark-skinned man with a baby, asking them to call the police.
Customers and supermarket employees reportedly confirmed that the grandmother was searching and shouting, while in fact the call to the police was made by a store employee.
The 43-year-old, who claims to be the mother of the baby's father, told the police where to find the infant's mother, who she said lived under the bridge at Petrou Ralli. When they managed to locate her on Wednesday night, they took her to the Attica General Police Directorate, to the Minor Protection Sub-Directorate.
The infant was found among the branches in the bins
They are searching for the unknown
Through security cameras, mainly around the point where the baby was found in Alimos, the juvenile police officers are attempting to determine how he arrived at the spot with the baby and to "map" his movements and itinerary so as to identify and arrest him.
The DIAS police officers who arrived first
A 66-year-old woman was the one who found the baby under the branches, next to the trash can on Ethnarchou Makariou Street, in Alimos and informed the ELAS.
DIAS police officers rushed to the spot, following a signal from the Immediate Action Center. 301-1/A Allagi, who were patrolling the area between 13.00-19.00.
When they saw the baby, they tenderly held it in their arms, trying to make it feel safe, calm down and stop crying.
The emergency services that had been called then arrived at the scene, which transported the baby to the Aglaia Kyriakou Children's Hospital.
