Makis Voridis and family attacked by hooded persons while dining with family

Featured Makis Voridis and family attacked by hooded persons while dining with family

An attack on New Democracy MP and former Minister Makis Voridis took place on Saturday night in a restaurant in Heraklion, Crete, when about 25 people wearing hoods and helmets began throwing eggs at him, cursing him and chanting slogans against him.

In one of the videos posted on social media after the attack on Makis Voridis, it appears that the riots caused material damage to the restaurant. Broken bottles, plates, glasses, tables on the floor and much more were left in their wake at the restaurant in Heraklion.

In his statement, Mr. Voridis speaks of “far-left hooligans” who attacked him “unprovoked” in the restaurant. "I know them and I am not surprised or scared by their vile practices! I have lived like this my entire life. But they did not respect either my family (my 12-year-old daughter was there), or the children of the families who were eating at the restaurant, without even being in our company," he stressed, concluding: "Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go until we eradicate far-left violence."

Makis Voridis' statement in detail:

Far-left hooligans attacked me yesterday unprovoked in a restaurant in Heraklion, Crete, where I am on a private visit.

I know them and I am not surprised or scared by their vile practices! I have lived like this my entire life. But they did not respect either my family (my 12-year-old daughter was there), or the children of the families who were eating at the restaurant, without even being in our company.

Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go until we eradicate far-left violence.

Pavlos Marinakis: They represent the worst form of fascism

The government spokesman and deputy minister to the Prime Minister, Pavlos Marinakis, also expressed his condemnation of the attack on Makis Voridis.

“At every opportunity, the ‘known and unknown’ confirm why they represent the worst form of fascism,” he emphasizes, noting that they did not respect Mr. Voridis’ family either.

"They do not scare us, but, on the contrary, they make us stronger," he said.
