Zakynthos: Pit Bull kills two year old of family that saved it

The parents of the 2-year-old boy who was mauled and killed by a pit bull in Zakynthos are in shock.
The local community is trying to come to terms with the tragedy that the family that housed the dog, which was a stray, is experiencing.
A moment when the child escaped their attention was enough for the fatal incident to occur. The little boy entered the area where the dog was chained and it attacked him brutally, biting him all over his body and mainly in the neck.
Their daughter screamed, but they didn't have time
The parents, a mother of British origin and a father of Albanian origin who live permanently in Agios Leontas, had gone shopping and when they returned at noon, for a moment they didn't notice the child and he made the move that proved fatal for his life.
The parents have two other children and their daughter was the one who screamed when she saw the attack.
“My little daughter called me and I ran quickly, that’s all I remember. My little child is gone,” the child’s father told Alpha in a devastated voice.
The pit bull under observation
The dog, which remained chained, was a stray, according to the child’s father.
“It was a stray, they had thrown it away and we took it in because they were shouting in the village that it would eat the animals and I took it in so that it would have somewhere to stay and it devoured my child. My child saw me, smiled at me and closed its eyes,” he said yesterday, shocked.
The dog is being monitored by a veterinarian.
The parents were arrested on charges of manslaughter by negligence and were later released on a verbal order from a prosecutor.
According to the neighbors, the dog was chained in a semi-wild state and barked constantly, while other animals were either free or fenced in. The family hosted several strays.
