The anniversary events to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Exodus of the "Free Besieged" in Messolonghi have been completed.
On Palm Sunday, the events of honor and remembrance culminated in the holy city of Messolonghi, marking 200 years since the Heroic Exodus of the Freed Besieged, with France as the honored country.
“Messolonghi reminds us that freedom and democracy are never given”
The Prime Minister sent messages with special symbolism and references to both the past and the prospects of the country.
During his speech, he focused on the importance of historical memory, linking it to contemporary challenges and Greece's path towards the future, seeking to highlight its political narrative of development, stability and national self-confidence.
"Mesolongi reminds us that freedom and Democracy are never given," the Prime Minister said in his speech.
"The most important message of the Exodus is the love for Freedom. The unity of the people remains the first priority.
Today we are a sovereign state with a central European role, with united citizens, a strong economy and this allows us to be present where Hellenism needs us," stressed Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The religious events began at 7:00 in the morning at the metropolitan church of Saint Spyridon, where a solemn polyarchaeological Divine Liturgy was celebrated, presided over by the Metropolitan of Chalkis, Chrysostomos, while at 10:20 a doxology was sung, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas.
