Marianna Kalbari new head of Theater of Art

Marianna Kalbari is taking over the emblematic Theater of Art founded by the legendary Karolos Koun, after the retirement of Diagoras Chronopoulos from the position of artistic director, after his successful ten year career at the post.

Mr Chronopoulos will continue to offer his services as a member of the board and will remain as director of studies at the Theater of Art's drama school. The board unanimously approved the posting of Ms Kalbari as director after the proposal tendered by Mr Chronopoulos. She will be taking over as artistic director in September 2014.

Marianna Kalbari is a graduate of the Theater of Art's drama school and a close associate of the Theater. She is a graduate also of Sorbonne University in literature and communication. She has been teaching at the Theater of Art's drama school, since 2005 and has participated in plays produced in the roles of translator, author, actor, and director. She has also taught theater at the Peloponnese University and the Moraitis School.
 

 Marianna Kalbari has directed, at the theater of Art, Mike Bartlett's “Love, love, love,” “Anonymouw Saint, or a very common story,” by Yannis Ritsos, “There are no nice pictures,” by Gertrude Stein, “Three sisters – Perestroika,” based on Anton Chekhov's play, “Stories for wedding-phobics,” by V. Raissi and Marianna Kalbari, and “Sorow,” by Karolos Koun.

She has also directed plays at the Michalis Kakoyannis Foundation. As an actor she has participated in plays produced by various theaters including the National theater.

She has also held roles in movies by directors Dimitris Athanitis, Loukia Rikaki, and Diamantis Karanastasis.
