Papoulias - Tsipras Meet on Golden Dawn Issue

"My highest duty is to defend democracy and the Greek people from the oncoming storm,' stated the President of the Republic, Karolos Papoulias, while welcoming SYRIZA president Alexis Tsipras to the presidential mansion.
Mr. Tsipras retorted: "We had a snake in our bosom for so long. Some thought it was a garden snake, and they petted it, and played with it. Now it's almost suffocating us. The time has come for the state and democracy to institutionally deal with the phenomenon. It has the capabilities and the legal framework exists. What is needed is political willingness."
The leader of SYRIZA asked the president to convene the conference of party leaders. Exiting the meeting Mr. Tsipras stated that he would ask for a discussion by the parliamentary plenum on how to deal with the rise of fascism and Golden Dawn, once it reconvenes.
