Uninsured vehicles plague Greek roads
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
According to Public Order ministry data released to parliament last week, traffic police have recorded more than ten thousand violations of the MOT test and close to twenty thousand violations of the insurance policy in the first four months of the year.
Specifically, 10,925 vehicles had failed to provide the MOT test certificate and 18,501 vehicles were circulating with no insurance. According to deputy Transport minister, Michalis Papadopoulos, in 2012 and 2013 only 4,030,781 vehicles had a certified MOT test.
The lack of vehicle insurance policies and MOT test certificates is a major safety issue, not to mention that it creates a huge loss of revenue for the state. It's a bad habit perpetuated by Greek drivers with no sense of responsibility and a total disregard for public safety.
