Greek Financial Police Run POST & ELTA Investigation
The Greek Financial Police ran a recent investigation that determined the federation of postal worker's union (POST) possibly gained over 10 million euros in illicit capital from the Hellenic Post (ELTA), according to Kathimerini.
The inspection revealed that ELTA put about 5.6 million euros into a POST account, strictly for union participant's subsidized vacations. An additional 2.3 million euros was fed into a different account for labor agreement financings, with additional deposits in the total amount of 16 million euros, between 2007 to 2010.
POST President Giorgos Vassilopoulos reacted to the accusations and claimed that the funds originated from regular contributions by members, from money that was taken from their ELTA wages.
