The foreign ministers of Greece, Cyprus and Austria intervened concerning  a public statement by the EU foreign policy chief Borrell anticipating the EU's attitude towards Turkey. The Borrell report on Euro-Turkish relations was discussed at today's meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council.

The Greek side considers the report by the European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on Turkey positive and balanced, according to diplomatic sources, as it includes a lot of satisfactory points even if there are some deficiencies.

Diplomats from Greece and Turkey failed to reach a breakthrough on Tuesday during a latest round of talks on the standoff between the two states over eastern Mediterranean borders and energy rights. This was what most analysts expected.
