Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce in New York honors Nikolas Tsakos as Person of the Year

The 71st annual Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce Gala took place on Friday, March 24th 2023, at the Rainbow Room. The historical Rainbow Room on the 65th floor of Rockefeller Center, was filled with prominent members of the shipping industry and Greek American community. The master of ceremonies, John Stratakis, welcomed the guests, followed by the Hellenic Chamber’s President, Athas Ioannou, who welcomed the guests and spoke about the success of the Chamber’s work and this year’s honoree. The presentation of the 71st Person of the Year Award Honoree was presented by Nicolas. Bornozis and Christopher Maitland.
Dr. Nikolas Tsakos accepted the award and shared his life story with the guests, he thanked his family and wife, Greek fashion designer, Celia Kritharioti. Dr. Nicholas Tsakos is the founder and CEO of Tsakos Energy Navigation and quoted on the New York Stock Exchange. He comes from a traditional Chian seafaring family and has extensive seagoing experience, having also served as an officer in the Greek Navy. DR. Tsakos is the Vice Chairman of the GSCC in London, was the chairman of INTERTANKO, and former president of the environmental organization. He sits on several boards of maritime and finance organizations and associations. Dr.Tsakos is the co-founder along with Captain Tsakos, of the Maria Tsakos educational foundation which supports the higher education of young men and women both in their native island of Chios and abroad. Dr.Tsakos is a graduate of Columbia University in New York with an economics and political science degree, he obtained a master's degree in shipping trade and finance from London’s City University Business School, and in 2011 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the City University, for his pioneering work in equity financial markets relating to shipping companies. Dr.Nikolas Tsakos is a prominent figure in the Greek American community and has offered support to various causes throughout the years.
The entertainment was provided by Kostis Maravegias and special guest appearance by Kalomira, who kept the guests dancing all evening.
