The National Philoptochos supports Constantinopolitans
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The National Philoptochos of the Archdiocese of America, at the urging of Archbishop Elpidophoros, has been pursuing, particularly over the past five years, an ambitious program of support for the Constantinopolitans, many of whom were displaced due to the difficult conditions in Turkey during the 1960s and 1970s and have since lived in Greece.
In this context and in collaboration with the Ecumenical Federation of Constantinopolitans of Greece, which provides housing and care to many of them, as well as with Professor and former Rector of the Polytechnic University, Nikolaos Ouzounoglou, the National Philoptochos is offering food vouchers for the next four months to 140 of our compatriots, most of whom are elderly.
In a letter, the Board of Directors of the Ecumenical Federation of Constantinople expresses its heartfelt thanks and deepest appreciation to the National Philoptochos and especially its president, Arlene Siaveli Kell, and its vice president, Annita Kartalopoulou, for their generous contribution to the Social Solidarity Program.
The National Philoptochos of Ladies of our Greek Community in the USA is registered as an independent women's association and is the charitable arm of the Archdiocese of America with 25,000 members under the leadership of Archbishop Elpidophoros of America.
