Greek Nights in Athens Square are now on

On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the curtain opened for Greek Nights at Athens Square (at the intersection of 30th Street and 30th Avenue) in the heart of Greek-occupied Astoria.
The Athens Square Board of Directors has scheduled a total of 9 performances for 2025, which will be repeated every Tuesday until July 29, 2025.
This year's Greek Nights kicked off with Nikos Nikolaidis and his orchestra and the Folklore Club of America, as well as sponsors Terry Deli and the Astoria Greek-American Homeowners Association.

Next Tuesday, June 10, 2025, the baton will be taken over by the talented performer Eleanna Finakalioti.
The performances – weather permitting – begin at 7:00 p.m. and last until 9:00 p.m. and are an oasis for expatriates and philhellenes who were not allowed to go on vacation to their homeland.
The Greek Evenings have been around for about four decades and are one of the most important activities of the Governing Committee. In the same Square, in July and August, every Wednesday, the Italian Evenings will be held, while in August, the baton on Tuesday is taken over by the Latin Evenings.
Athens Square
As is known, Athens Square belongs to the New York City Parks Service, so the statues and marble columns will be maintained by the said Service, because there is a separate reserve fund for each project.
Athens Square is located at the intersection of 30th Avenue and 30th Street in Astoria. At its entrance there is a statue of the goddess Athena, while in the background there are columns similar to those of Delphi and near them, the statue of Socrates.
In the left corner was placed the bust of Aristotle, while in the right corner of the Square the statue of Sophocles has been placed.
The City of New York has recognized the role of the Steering Committee and the Greek Diaspora in the creation of Athens Square and in 2015 renamed 30th Avenue in front of Athens Square to "Dennis Syntilas Way", thus honoring the memory of the Square's founder and first president, the late Dennis (Demosthenes) Syntilas.
