Silver Metal in pole vault for Greece's Stefanidis

Twenty four year old athlete, Katerina Stefanidis, won the silver medal at the 22th European Athletics Championship in pole vault. Pole vault legend Sergey Bubka presented the award.
With a jump of 4.60 meters Katerina Stefanidis took second place in Europe in the pole vault. The Stanford University neuropsychology graduate made Greece proud and gave her its first medal in the event. Her young age allows optimism that in the future there will be further cause for celebration over her athletic achievements.
President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias sent Katerina Stefanidis a congratulatory telegram for her success. Mr. Papoulias stated in the telegram: "Congratulations for your great presence that led to winning the silver medal at the European level. Your victory gave us all great joy and pride. I wish you success."
