Greece Scores Silver at European Swimming Championships
During the 32nd LEN European Swimming Championships, three Greek athletes scored silver medals during the 5 kilometer open-water team race.
The competition was held in Berlin and the winning Greek team was comprised of Kelly Araouzou, Antonis Fokaidis and Spyros Gianniotis. The Netherlands won the gold medal, while the bronze medal went to Germany.
The Netherlands clocked in at 55:47.8, Greece marked 56:05.5 and Germany timed at 56:14.8. The top ten teams of the competition in rank include the Netherlands, Greece, Germany, Hungary, Italy, France, Great Britain, Russia and Poland.
Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras congratulated the Hellenic silver medalists and stated, "You proved that hard work and team work wins in the end. All Greeks feel proud of you; thank you."
The 32nd LEN European Swimming Championships run from August 13th to 24th and hold diving, open water, swimming and synchronized swimming competitions.
