Google initiative for Greek tourism

A new initiative by Google, Ministry of Tourism, EOT and SETE, called “Grow Greek Tourism Online”, is starting from Crete.

The goal is to give to tourism sector all the necessary tools to enforce its development all the year and not only in summer.

Google will organize two events in Crete (Heraklion 2/9 and Chania 3/9).

All local businesses may sign in g.co/GrowGreekTourism, free of charge.

Government officials have commented on the iniative, which can be read below:

Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogiannis: “We are watching international tourism market and we try to offer high quality services. We believe that it’s about time to extend tourist season. Our goal is to show Greece’s advantages further more”.

General Secretary of EOT, Panos Livadas: “Internet is our main tool of communication, by visitgreece.gr. Studies are showing that use of internet may increase demands by 20%, the GDP by 3% and create 300.000 new jobs”.

President of SETE, Andreas Andreadis: “Google’s initiative will enforce our effort to extend the tourist season. Internet is one of the most important tools for the tourism sector in Greece”.

Google Greece Marketing Manager, Maria Foundas: “We believe in the internet for the growth of businesses, for new jobs and the reinforcement of local economy. That’s why Google invests in the Greek tourism industry. We start from Crete this Autumn, hoping to go to more Greek destinations in 2015″.
