Aegean Airlines Bookings Soar

  • Written by

The amount of Aegean Airlines ticket holders soared in July, due to directed proposals by the air carrier, after experiencing a decline in bookings after imposed capital controls.

Currently the largest airline in Greece, Aegean Airways flew an additional 19% more passengers in July, compared to July 2014. An extra 240,000 travelers flew on the carrier, which totaled 1.473 million flyers, according to Kathimerini.

International bookings experienced the largest rise, marking 28%. The nation's capital held the largest yearly increase amount at 37%, with 808,450 additional travelers in July, in comparison to last year's same month.  Flights to Rhodes rose 15%, while flights to Iraklio, Crete enlarged by 30%.

Aegean Airlines Managing Director Dimitris Gerogiannis described, "Aegean is trying with all its might to support the country in this difficult period and to maintain its growth momentum. The challenges and difficulties are huge, but tourism could once again be a growth factor and should be supported. Aegean has managed to increase traffic to the country and domestic tourism to small islands that need it," as reported by Kathimerini.
