Sian Green, the British tourist whose leg was amputated after a taxi accident in Manhattan in August, describes the details of her ordeal in an interview with Daily Mail, a British on-line newspaper.
In a very human and personal account, Green describes to the newspaper how she survived the moment her dream vacation to N.Y. turned into a nightmare. She recounts "I screamed at the paramedic. I told him "Please save my leg." He leaned over and said "I'm sorry sweetheart." I knew then what was going to happen to me." She also expressed with indignation how the taxi driver could have avoided the accident.
"I saw the taxi driver coming at us, as he wanted to get at the bicyclist...He certainly could have avoided it." she said infuriated. This is in reference to how the taxi went up on the sidewalk in pursuit of a bicyclist in a moment of road rage.
Sian Green, who has now begun legal actions against the taxi driver, is maintaining her courage. She is continuing her studies in fashion and modeling, and is currently waiting to be fitted for a prosthetic leg.
"Sometimes I feel like I have pain from my knee and down; I forget that I am amputated. But, I won't lose my courage. My son, who is a soldier, told me stories about people who lose one or two legs, but who live normal lives." shares Green, whose experience shook up Manhattan recently in August.
