Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies Holds “Ephebe’s Journey III” Workshop

  • Written by

The Center for Hellenic Studies at Harvard University is holding a two-day workshop this summer, titled "Ephebe's Journey III".

This year's summer study seminar explores "The Emotional Life of the Leader in Ancient Greece and Modern America." As Harvard University states, "This two-day workshop will introduce students with an interest in civic participation and leadership to aspects of democracy, one of the ancient world's most lasting legacies."

Scholars will focus on Athenian democracy that was administered in the fifth and fourth centuries BCE. Previous knowledge of the ancient world is not a necessity for participation. This season's workshop will center on the emotional life of the leader submersed in a democratic atmosphere.

At the workshop's end, students will hold a discussion concerning the role of the humanities in citizenship and leadership conversations. The application deadline for "Ephebe's Journey III" is July 1st. Registration information can be found at: http://chs.harvard.edu/CHS/article/display/5973.
