SpaceX is erecting a 50 foot Prometheus

The ambitious project is being developed by the French brothers behind Atelier Missor, whose work seeks to revive monumental sculpture inspired by the Greco-Roman artistic tradition. Their vision presents Prometheus carrying the stolen fire as a monumental tribute to technological progress and humanity’s determination to transcend its limitations. A smaller bronze model has already been produced, while more recent reporting indicates that construction work on parts of the full-scale sculpture has begun. One important qualification remains, however. Independent reporting has not established that SpaceX has formally commissioned the monument or officially confirmed its eventual installation at Starbase.

The images now circulating of the enormous metallic figure in Texas offer a striking visual encounter between ancient Greek mythology and the modern space age. If the project is completed according to its creators’ vision, its intended setting could hardly be more symbolic. At a site associated with humanity’s ambition to reach other worlds, Prometheus, the ancient Greek bringer of fire and technē, would stand as a bridge between an idea conceived thousands of years ago and the technological aspirations of the twenty-first century.
