Abu Ghaith Found Guilty on Three Accounts
Sulaiman Abu Ghaith has been found guilty of conspiring to murder U.S. citizens, by his appointment as al Qaeda's spokesman, following September 11th.
Osama bin Laden's son-in-law is the highest ranked al Qaeda member to ever face the American court system. Approximately five hours of deliberation preceded his verdict today.
He was charged on three accounts: conspiring to provide support to al Qadea, providing support to al Qaeda and conspiracy to kill Americans. These are cause for a life sentence. September 8th marks Abu Ghaith's sentencing date. U.S. lawyer Preet Bharara stated, "We hope this verdict brings some small measure of comfort to the families of the victims of al Qaeda's murderous designs".
Defense lawyer Stanley Cohen representing the al Qaeda member commented,"He believes that what happens has a purpose and a reason as intended...He remains a man who is comfortable with himself, what he did and why. He's a man of character and integrity and principle." They plan to appeal the sentencing.
