President Clinton Comments on NSA Spiller Snowden

  • Written by

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton commented on National Security Agency spiller Edward Snowden, regarding his highly classified informational release.

He termed him as an: "imperfect messenger...has raised all of these questions about whether we can use technology to protect the national security without destroying the liberty, which includes the right to privacy, of basically innocent bystanders".

Obama's current administration had determined that Snowden is a criminal that must be tried in the United States. Clinton spoke to students at the U.S. Naval Academy and stated that President Obama: "...is taking this very seriously and has made some important recommendations in terms of more vigorous oversight with special FISA courts and more transparency". Clinton added that additional reforms are a must.

President Clinton explained, "We cannot change the character of our country or compromise the future of our people by creating a national security state, which takes away the liberty and privacy we propose to advance." On the flip side, the 42nd former president claimed that the U.S. must not: "look like fools" by lacking crucial intelligence.
