Obama Nominates New Health Secretary
Today, President Obama announced his health secretary nomination as Sylvia Mathews Burwell, who currently heads the White House budget office.
Burwell will be directing Obamacare in her new post. Offering comments on outgoing secretary Kathleen Sebelius, the President remarked: "I will miss her advice. I will miss her friendship. I will miss her wit". Controversy plagued Sebelius' term, but Obama confirmed that her staff, "...got it fixed, got the job done...The final score speaks for itself". 7.5 million Americans have currently signed up for Obamacare.
The President described his newly selected health secretary: "Sylvia is a proven manager, and she knows how to deliver results...And she'll need to be a proven manager because these are tough tasks, big challenges".
However, Sylvia Burwell will need Senate approval for her new position. She will be confronted by a hard Republican stance on Obama's new universal health care. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's spokesman Don Stewart commented, "You can expect a robust discussion, both at the hearing and on the floor, on Obamacare and its consequences".
